Spam – no, not the luncheon meat of dubious origin and even more dubious taste, SPAM of the email variety.

We’ve all experienced it to some extent – whether someone trying to see us Viagra, “DHL” or “FedEx” wanting our bank details to collect some mysterious parcel or our friend the Nigerian Prince wanting help only we can provide in moving millions of out of the country. And, when you get used to what these look like the majority are of such obvious fakery as to be laughable.

Recently I have noticed some slipping through my rather excellent SPAM filter, SpamSieve on OS X, and I thought I’d bring some of these to your attention, and suggest some “tricks” for testing their validity.

1. Make your dong long – the latest Viagra spam.

Usually these are pretty easy to filter via keywords in the email – anything containing VIAGRA, PENIS or several ...

Well I bit the bullet and upgraded both iPhone 3GSes to iPhone 4s. Yes, I *did* do it on the launch day here in Australia, but not by lining up – granted, some people enjoy the experience, but I can’t think of a more useless waste of time. I like my warmth and comfort ! Especially when I called my local Telstra store and asked them to reserve two if they had any left – they did, and apart from a minor porting hassle getting one of the numbers over from Vodafone, all went well. Especially when I called my local Telstra store and asked them to reserve two if they had any left – they did, and apart from a minor porting hassle getting one of the numbers over from Vodafone, all went well. The lovely Natalie and the slightly less lovely Nick were brilliant.

No evidence of the signal issue yet, despite using any and every possible variation of the so-called “death grip” that I could think of.

Interesting side note: Both the phones I got were made in Week 30 (as signified by the 4th and 5th digits of the serial number) – the only people I have seen having demonstrable signal problems related to grip are owners of phones made in ...

Yep, I wasn't especially clear on that. I am aware there's an ability to work around this (and assume this is the reference). I meant a 'supported' configuration option, perhaps one that optionally submits sites for review to include in the official whitelist...

You can add sites to the flash whitelist, There is a whole thread on the xda forums about it. I tested it myself and it does indeed work. How long the loophole stays open for is the big question

Is also worth noting that you MUST have SP1 installed. Because our KMS server was on a dedicated VM, it somehow got missed on our patching cycle (we basically forgot it existed). We soon found out when we got the "This update is not applicable to your setup...

Yeah, I like to use a laptop for a) furious tweeting and b) taking notes. Occasionally a bit of c) keeping up with work emails (still on the clock!).Good point about the wireless!

These are great tips! This is going to be my first TechEd and I've been wondering whether people are actually going to bring their laptops in during the sessions and whether there are charging stations etc. I'm also gonna bring my D-Link mobile companion...
